Traditional Cake Icing is Butter Cream. This icing is very flavorful and creamy, made with a combination of shortening and real butter mixed with powdered sugar and flavorings. This icing can be spread to look almost as smooth as rolled fondant. It is a good choice when the wedding cake will be served as part of the reception refreshments. The addition of the real butter gives the frosting a slight cream color. If pure white frosting is desired the butter cream can be made with all shortening, no butter. This is an acceptable, good tasting frosting, but is not as delicious as the one made with butter. |
